About The Flute Program
YOCJ’s Flute Program consists of two levels: Flute Ensemble and Flute Choir. Mrs. Sandy Olson is the conductor.
The Flute Choir and the Flute Ensemble perform, in addition to YOCJ’s other Chamber ensemble groups, at the Small Ensemble Concerts each semester, as well as at the annual Ocean City trip. They play contemporary flute ensemble music written by composers such as Nicole Chamberlain, Ricky Lombardo, Jonathan Cohen and Catherine McMichael as well as many arrangements of orchestral and chamber string works. YOCJ is looking forward to some exciting programming that also features other instruments in the flute family such as piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute!
The Flute Ensemble consists of younger players who are new to performing chamber music. The Flute Choir consists of older students who have demonstrated more advanced skills in ensemble playing. Membership in either group is solely at the discretion of the conductors.
• The Flute Choir currently rehearses on Tuesdays, 7:00pm to 8:00pm.
• The Flute Ensemble currently rehearses on Tuesdays, 7:30pm to 8:30pm.
• The overlap between the two groups (7:30pm-8:00pm) allows both groups to rehearse joint selections.
